10 steps to making your own office.

"10 steps to making your own office."

Step 1 Make a friend who has a room spare in a shop on a street in a prime location. In this case, The Alternative Store on Division Street, Sheffield. Thanks folks!

Step 2 Offer them something in return for the spare room they never use, such as, cleaning out said room they never use.

Step 3 Box up all the old stock, ready to go to the warehouse and free up space.

Step 4 (optional) Go abroad, leaving your co-collaborator to do all the hard work of actually clearing up and taking boxes to the warehouse.

Step 5 Hide your delight at returning to an empty room without having had to do any work by apologising profusely – cooking dinner, buying coffee etc helps.

Step 6 Clean the room. That includes the window. Even though it looks like some of that stuff is never ever coming off..

Step 7 Paint the walls and ceiling and make desks out of old shelving racks. The colour will make it look new. The shelving racks preserve some valuable history…

Step 8 Clean the room (again) making sure to remove all those annoying paint drops that made it through the dust sheets. N.B We should have used dust sheets.

Step 9 Furnish the room with laptops, lights, chairs and stationary.

Step 10 Begin working. Delighted!
