Launch: Audio Visual Postcard

Other

“A simple postcard with its restricted choice of landmarks printed onto the front and limited word-space on the back doesn’t capture the sense of the place you’re in or your story within it. To show that which is lesser seen and explore it with your own eyes and ears is the aim of this project.” That’s the text that we’ve put on the homepage of the ‘Audio Visual Postcard’ website which we’ve just launched. The ‘our’ in question relates to myself and friend + musician Sam Hanlan. Together, we travelled to Berlin for a long weekend with the idea to capture what…Keep reading >>

Photography Exhibitions in July.

Other

I’m not a big gallery hopper but since last summer I’ve started going to more and more so I thought I’d share the odd trip and hopefully inspire you to go and see photos hanging on real walls instead of facebook walls. All of the exhibitions here listed are FREE  and down to earth; simply because I can’t afford to pay nor can I afford to spend the time peeling back layers of irony all that yucky mumbojumbo associated with art. I simply want to see good photography, that’s all. Here are three exhibitions I went to recently.  Bob Mazzer –…Keep reading >>

Interning at Warp Films

Other

I’ve been making little films for the past 4 years but I know that the scale of the films I want to make is far bigger than what I’ve done thus far and, to do that, I want to work on teams that put those films out there. Films, for me, are those things we queue up and pay to see, desperately avoiding the glance at the overpriced confectionary as we make our way into massive rooms full of people all delightedly sharing a cultural filmic experience together. I’ve been lucky enough to have had some public screenings of my…Keep reading >>

Two Fuji’s One Canon

Other

Two Fuji’s One Canon Interesting AF system comparison by @Benji_Cherry between Fuji and Canon autofocus systems. I’ve been getting more and more impressed by these little mirrorless systems (thanks to Ben) and this test shows that the AF is up there with the Canon. Although he’s also posed a bit of a challenge for us to guess which photos relate to which system. Time to get my nerd on. My money is on 1) Canon 2) Fuji / 135mm 3) Fuji 200mm #2fujis1canon. He’ll reveal the answers on Friday. Check out the blog and play your part.  [URL] bencherryphotos: If…Keep reading >>

Anzère Premiere Recap

Other

Anzère Premiere Recap A few words about the highlight of my filmmaking journey so far – the screening of my snowboard film ‘Deeper than Snow’ in the place it all began and sharing it with so many people.  thewhitelinecrew: The lead up to our Swiss premiere was spent in a mix of excitement at idea of returning to the birthplace of the project and screening our film and nervousness to see if anyone would turn up. Afterall, we wanted to share the film with the people of Anzère and thank them for being so wonderfully…

Making a Brass Band Documentary Pt. I: The Walk

Other

Making a Brass Band documentary Pt. I: The Walk “Do you want to make a documentary about a brass band composition?” “Uhhhm…Tell me more.”  She did. And I agreed. That’s the ultranonspecific way that I got involved with this project. With a skeptical hesitance which was quickly overturned by the delightful enthusiasm and amazing track record of Louise Snape, the professional puller off-er of Sheffield based arts platform ‘Hand Of’. She caught me at a good time because I was looking for a distinctly local project to turn my attention to. After making two snowboard films in my first two years…Keep reading >>

Hantu Shoot

Other

The idea behind this shoot for Hantu was to do an anti fashion shoot, fashion shoot. We ditched the typical angsty stares and furrowed brows for genuine laughter and enjoyment. All of that topped off with minimal, low contrast editing for some fun, unpretentious photographs. Here are some photos from the shoot, including a couple of behind the scenes photos and the crew credits.  Clothing: Hantu | Make up: Coco Bean | Styling: Faisal Bajwa | Models: Izaac George Cruickshank & Freya Sheldon | Video: Jessy Busgeeth | Location: Archipelago Works – – – Behind the scenes.  For more, higher resolution photos from…Keep reading >>

Wes Anderson on Actors

Other

All of these actors are people whom I’m fans of, and have convinced them to do movies with me. So I go back to the same people because I lovethese actors. The advantage to having ones I already know is I have my way of working, and they’re already into it. Not every actor in the world reacts the same way when you tell them, “You won’t have a trailer. Your costume will be left in your room at night, and you’ll come to the set in your costume and be made up in the hotel.” Actors are used to staying…Keep reading >>

How I ended up filming in Las Vegas…

Other

One of the craziest things in my filmmaking career so far has to be a mind-blowing offer to go and film in Las Vegas. I just wanted to share a little blog about how it happened, mostly as an excuse to show you some photos. But I hope that you find some kind of message in here about patience, faith and the art of putting yourself out there, because all of this came about because of a little snowboard film I made two years before. It all happened really fast. I was offered the shoot in early February and two…Keep reading >>

Edinburgh Mountain Film Festival

Other

Edinburgh Mountain Film Festival Here’s some words I wrote over on another blog, the one for our snowboard film. It’s a few thoughts on the first ever public screening of our new snowboard film, Deeper than Snow, which screened at the Edinburgh Mountain Film Festival last weekend. Check it out!  thewhitelinecrew: It was an honour to have Deeper than Snow debut at the Edinburgh Mountain Film Festival. Screened in front of a crowd of between 300-400 people, we couldn’t be happier with its very first screening. Although it’s a teeny tiny film, I’m definitely calling it the world premiere. Here’s…Keep reading >>
