Berlin!

Other

I’m off to Berlin to embark on a new audiovisual project and combine travel with art; a creative city break. The project is a collaboration between myself and electronic music composer Sam Hanlan. We’re going to be taking and making art from within the City, him with the sounds and me with the sights It’s a voyage into the unknown and we’ll be crafting the concept as we go. If it goes well, the plan is to make a whole bunch of these long weekend trips to different cities, making cool audio visual…thingies. Hence the name, audiovisual postcards.  An absolutely…Keep reading >>

Crew Stories: Rob, Editor

Other

Crew Stories: Rob, Editor thewhitelinecrew: I was just supposed to be doing a technical edit. Making sure all the editing techniques were correct, streamline a few things and do some tidying. The plan was agreed in principle before a frame had been shot. A few months later, I got a call from Ismar (we had had regular calls in between to…

Instant Cameras

Other

I love Instant Photography. To me, it’s magic. It’s not some hipster gimmick, it’s something I always liked and not long after I got into photography some 4 years ago, I quickly bought my first Polaroid camera. Yup, that’s before Instagram, folks. Well, before it got huge anyway.  This is my Polaroid Spectra 1200si. It cost me about £30 from eBay. The film for it has always been pricey via The Impossible Project but I used to find deals on eBay for old expired film. But there’s less and less old film and more and more from the Impossible Project….Keep reading >>

The Journey Begins

The Journey Begins thewhitelinecrew: So here we are, the first day of 2014 and we’re finally ready to ramp it up and start sharing some voluptuous ‘Deeper than Snow’ news and goodies with all of you. It’s been a deliberate silence from us since we finished editing the film in the summer as we’ve been sorting a few things out,…

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty – Alternative Review

Other

This is probably the most excited I’ve been to see a film since ‘The Iceman’ earlier in the year. In a release period with huge films such as The Hobbit, American Hustle and such forth, this was the film I cared about most. Ever since I saw the trailer back in October, I was captivated by the potential. The trailer portrayed an artistic film with a wonderfully unique visual style, blending a melancholy naturalism with with colourful, comic extravagance as it told the story of a daydreamer caught in a humble routine, juxtaposing the world of reality with the world of imagination….Keep reading >>

Christmas Floods

Other

Severe flooding has swept the South East of England with impeccable timing. It all started on the eve of Christmas Eve (Monday 23rd December), leaving commuters in a bind with train delays and cancellations, homes without power and waterlogged roads and buildings. It’s a real shame that people have had their Christmas’ put in such a pickle, although I suppose bad things never comes at a good time. Anyway, on Christmas Day, I ventured out with the folks to check out the extent of what was going on in my lovely little Godalming and surrounding area of Farncombe and Guildford….Keep reading >>

Anchorman 2 – Alternative Review

Other

So it was funny. Very funny. I can’t remember the last film I saw that had the entire audience cracking up so much and so often. If you see it, you will laugh, it’s as simple as that. But, as always, I’m not here to tell you what you already know through other bigger, better reviews and word of mouth, I’m here to share a few alternative insights and ponderings that might otherwise be unexplored by the conventional film review. So here it goes! I’m sure that it was a funny film…but I’m not sure if it was a good…Keep reading >>

Nebraska – An Alternative Review

Other

Synopsis | An aging, booze-addled father makes the trip from Montana to Nebraska with his estranged son in order to claim a million dollar Mega Sweepstakes Marketing prize. Starring Bruce Dern, June Squibb, Will Forte, Bob Odenkirk, Stacy Keach. Directed by Alexander Payne.  Nebraska is a very interesting movie to discuss in terms of the stylistic elements which are very specifically crafted to exude the thematic content of the story, which is a tale of simplicity. There are a plenty of great film reviews out there if you want a general feel for the content of the movie, story, acting, and all…Keep reading >>

Fashion Shoot: The Alternative Store

Other

It’s been almost 2 years since I last shot any fashion. A combination of lack of opportunities for it a lack of self confidence in this area to actively go looking for it. As a filmmaker, photography has always played second fiddle so I’ve never committed to photographing anything that requires too much planning because, to me, that’s what filmmaking is. Photography is the fun stuff, and that’s why my photos are very photojournalism-esque with people & places already there. I turn up as the final element to capture what’s on offer and that’s that. But I’m the first to…Keep reading >>
