Anchorman 2 – Alternative Review

Other

So it was funny. Very funny. I can’t remember the last film I saw that had the entire audience cracking up so much and so often. If you see it, you will laugh, it’s as simple as that. But, as always, I’m not here to tell you what you already know through other bigger, better reviews and word of mouth, I’m here to share a few alternative insights and ponderings that might otherwise be unexplored by the conventional film review. So here it goes! I’m sure that it was a funny film…but I’m not sure if it was a good…Keep reading >>

Nebraska – An Alternative Review

Other

Synopsis | An aging, booze-addled father makes the trip from Montana to Nebraska with his estranged son in order to claim a million dollar Mega Sweepstakes Marketing prize. Starring Bruce Dern, June Squibb, Will Forte, Bob Odenkirk, Stacy Keach. Directed by Alexander Payne.  Nebraska is a very interesting movie to discuss in terms of the stylistic elements which are very specifically crafted to exude the thematic content of the story, which is a tale of simplicity. There are a plenty of great film reviews out there if you want a general feel for the content of the movie, story, acting, and all…Keep reading >>

Fashion Shoot: The Alternative Store

Other

It’s been almost 2 years since I last shot any fashion. A combination of lack of opportunities for it a lack of self confidence in this area to actively go looking for it. As a filmmaker, photography has always played second fiddle so I’ve never committed to photographing anything that requires too much planning because, to me, that’s what filmmaking is. Photography is the fun stuff, and that’s why my photos are very photojournalism-esque with people & places already there. I turn up as the final element to capture what’s on offer and that’s that. But I’m the first to…Keep reading >>

Arts Tower Abseil

Other

A group of crazy beautiful people decided to abseil down the Sheffield University Arts Tower on Sunday. It’s the tallest University building in the UK, standing at 78m/256ft and it’s the first time it has been abseiled. The crazies were doing it for the charity Sheffield Rag and the amazing people behind the Abseil itself were Rock and Ice.  I started off the day taking photos from the bottom, not wanting to brave the top because of my heavy dislike for heights. It’s not a fear, I hasten to add, because I can overcome it, I just reaaally would rather not….Keep reading >>

Back & Alive

Other

Just a quick post to let y’all know I’m alive. Haven’t blogged because of a combination of travelling and the start of my final year at University. So here’s a few highlights of what I’ve been doing and from here on in, I’ll blog each event, just like I used to. Did I ever do that? Dunno, but I will.  USA | August – September. I’ve always been fascinated by the States but had never been. So this summer I worked my nuts off, saved up and splurged it all on a month of frolics. Went to NY, then hired a…Keep reading >>

THE WOLVERINE – QUICK REVIEW

Other

Firstly, I’m gonna whack a disclaimer up here and tell you that although I really like Wolverine, I’m not a fan outside of the movies. I know nothing of Wolverine lore or the comic books, so I’m writing this with a self confessed degree of ignorance and constructing my opinions on the basis of the movie as a stand alone artefact. Nevertheless, it’s between him and Spiderman for my favourite ‘Superhero’ if you must know. I don’t buy the Batman hype personally. So let’s dive in.  I loved the film. I…Keep reading >>

I Still Shoot Film: How To Take Natural-Looking (Posed) Portraits

Other

I Still Shoot Film: How To Take Natural-Looking (Posed) Portraits istillshootfilm: As a professional photographer, people will ask you to shoot all sorts of things… and it won’t always be gorgeous models or extremely interesting street scenes. One of the biggest sources of revenue for me personally is in shooting portraits of regular people who need photos for all sorts of…

New Video: At Home

Other

So I had this epiphany or something probably less dramatic,a few months back where I realised that my camera collected way too much dust and only came out for corporate jobs. Can a painter truly call themselves a painter if they only bring out their brushes on cue, on demand, when told and not because they want to in and of themselves? I’d say not. I’d say they’re just a hired hand. So I realised that I needed to make time to play and enjoy making the little videos that started me on my journey; the silly little handheld things…Keep reading >>

THE WORLD’S END – QUICK REVIEW

Other

Midnight screening of The World’s End. That’s the dedication, that’s the hype, those are the hopes I had for this film. I was in love before I even met the stranger on this blind date. In love because the previous work of my matchmaker had been spot on (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz), and I had heard great things (Twitter, yeah). Armed with a Cornetto – alas, they only had Strawberry – and it was love at first sight. But as the clock ticked through, the night ended without any affection and I was gutted. *In the hope of…Keep reading >>

Talenthouse Ambassador

Other

I’m very happy to say that I’m now officially an Ambassador for the wonderful Talenthouse! It’s something I’ve been working towards for a while now so I can share the news in more detail. First off, I want you to know that I’m not employed by Talenthouse, but I became an ambassador because I truly believe in the cause. I feel so passionately about collaboration and networking with other creatives around the globe that I hounded Talenthouse until they agreed to let me help spread the word to creatives, from one artist to another. I want more people to know about it because…Keep reading >>
